HMC (HOYA MULTI COATED)
These are light balancing filters used to decrease the colour temperature slightly for a warmer (redder) tone. This product is designed to correct tendencies toward bluish tones and controls the coloration that affects daylight film. The Hoya HMC 81A Filter removes any unwarranted blue from the effects of electronic flash. For example; 81A should be selected when using tungsten Type B colour film (3200°K) with photoflood lamps (3400°K). These filters can be used together.
These popular filters are renowned for their ability to minimise reflection at the filter surfaces which reduces flare and ghosting. The result is an average light transmission of over 97%, giving sharp contrast and well balanced colour. HOYA HMC filters are recommended for enhancing the performance of today's multicoated lenses.
The 80 Hoya series of filters have many uses; therefore to meet demand the filter is produced in many sizes. This product is for use for both professionals and amateur alike and must be considered an essential addition to any photo arsenal.
Hoya, one of the premier filter manufacturers continues to make filters from quality glass assuring the photographer sharp, clear and accurate images. Their filters consistently provide even colour all the way through the filter; all surfaces are ground and polished to specific thickness and tolerances. Even non-multi-coated Hoya filters have one layer of anti-reflective coating which is applied to each surface of the glass. This decreases light reflection off the surface from approx. 9% to an average of 4-5% by Hoya's single layer coating.
Please note: The 81 Series of filters creates a feeling of warmth, the 82 Series creates a feeling of coolness.
Scenario- It's autumn time, clouds are hanging low and the sky is "patchy blue". You’re on a ride heading upstate to the mountains and the light in open shade is bluish. With daylight balanced film leaning against the side of a barn, a photo of your girlfriend was taken. The photo yielded bluish tones that she found particularly unflattering. You offer to retake the photo with an 81B filter that replaces even more yellow than an 81A and bring her skin tones back to a more appealing level. Additionally an 81B can be used with electronic flash to reduce the amount of "blue" generated by the flash. The 81 series (81A, B, C, D and EF) allows you to choose how much warmth you wish to replace in the image.
